KMC to conduct city-wide tree health inspection and 'treatment' program
The Airport police have successfully busted a gang that allegedly defrauded numerous individuals of lakhs of rupees by operating a fake call centre, promising them loans and insurance policies. The two prime accused in the case, identified by their aliases 'Bunty' (Sandeep Bar) and 'Babli' (Shoma Sengupta), who had been absconding since the initial raid, were finally arrested from the Birati area on Friday.
The police had received intelligence a few days prior that an illicit call centre was operating in the Kaikhali area. From this location, scammers were reportedly making calls across the country, collecting advance payments from unsuspecting individuals under the guise of securing insurance policies or facilitating loans. Acting on this information, the Airport police conducted an immediate raid on the premises, leading to the arrest of several employees involved in the fraudulent operation. However, at that time, the alleged masterminds, 'Bunty' and 'Babli', managed to evade capture.
Following their initial escape, the police maintained constant technical surveillance and utilized informers to track the absconding duo. Their persistent efforts paid off on Friday when, based on concrete information, a targeted raid was conducted in the Birati area, resulting in the apprehension of both Sandeep Bar and Shoma Sengupta. The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in dismantling the scam, which has impacted a wide range of common people seeking financial assistance.
